In 2013, I embarked on a journey that would shape my future in ways I could never have imagined. Like a newcomer to any trade, I was a novice when I first started working with my father-in-law in the makeup brush industry. I vividly remember July 2013, when, with his support, I established my very first workshop. This was where I began my path in the production and sale of animal hair for makeup brushes.

My father-in-law, a veteran in the field since the 1990s, possessed a wealth of experience and a wide network of business contacts. Initially, our partnerships were few, with one of our primary collaborators being Xin Xin Lei, a name that may be unfamiliar to many, but it once stood as a key supplier to renowned brands like Morphe.

The reason I founded the Sophienia Makeup Brush brand stems from a desire to share the knowledge and skills I’ve inherited from my family with the world. In today’s era of fast-paced consumption, I want to remind people of the true value of handcrafted makeup brushes. These brushes not only enhance your beauty but also serve as a testament to the enduring worth of traditional craftsmanship.

Although Sophienia is still an emerging brand, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing high-quality products at affordable prices. We stand for those who seek to elevate their quality of life and those who appreciate and honor artisanal craftsmanship. Before launching this project, we conducted thorough research on the market for animal hair makeup brushes, and we also consulted with friends and industry experts. Many expressed doubts about the future of this market, citing the higher costs of animal hair brushes compared to synthetic alternatives, as well as the growing environmental consciousness leading consumers to prefer vegan brushes.

However, through our research, we found that there is still a dedicated audience for animal hair brushes. This discovery solidified our decision to move forward with our project, confident that our products will withstand the test of the market.

Our factory is located in the heartland of China, in Henan Province. We chose to produce our brushes in a rural area not only to contribute to the local economy but also to reduce production costs, allowing us to offer premium quality at more accessible prices. I often reflect on the times I worked alongside my father-in-law, and I am committed to preserving and passing down this legacy. While my own children are still young, I hope that one day they too will join this craft.
