Can natural hair imitate the color of synthetic bristles?
Dying natural hair to the color of synthetic fiber is hard. Dyeing a synthetic fiber to replicate natural hair is also tough. In fact, it is impossible.
- If natural hair wants to imitate the color of synthetic fibers. There are many drawbacks. Natural hair consists of several natural colors. Some of which are: squirrel hair, pony hair, raccoon hair, squirrel hair, weasel hair, and more. If you are looking at dyeing your hair, you can only choose to dye it to a darker color than your natural hair color. Some natural white hair is suitable for dyeing, such as white goat hair, white pony hair, etc. Natural hair is not suitable for imitating lighter-colored synthetic bristles.
Unique bristle color from Sophienia makeup brush
The picture above shows us the 15-piece champagne gold natural makeup brush set. This is a developed product made by the makeup brush manufacturer from Sophienia. It is a synthetic fiber color imitated from goat hair. The white tip is very difficult. What we know is that there is no similar natural makeup brush on the market. The fact that We have communicated this to our dyeing engineers too. and think this is an impossible project. But, we did it. Advantages:
1) High-temperature disinfection without the special smell of goat hair.
2) Unique color
3) No industry competitors can imitate this.
4) A variety of colors are available to choose from.
5) The color of natural bristles gets customized as required
Can synthetic fibers dye the color of natural hair?
The difference between synthetic fiber and natural hair dyeing
Synthetic fibers cannot get dyed into the same color as natural hair color. If done, there will be different color differences. Why is this happening?
1. The dyes used for dyeing synthetic fibers and natural are different. This means that if synthetic fiber dyes are in use to dye our natural hair, our hair won’t get colored. If natural hair dyes gets used to dye synthetic fibers, the process of coloring won’t be possible.
2. The heating container for bristles dyeing is also different. Let us start with the heating container used for natural hair. The heating container for natural hair does not need sealing. Only when the temperature reaches 100 degrees Celsius, the coloring process is complete. Now coming to the heating containers for synthetic fiber. This container needs a lid with high tightness requirements. It also needs higher pressure and higher temperature. This is essential to complete the coloring of the bristles.
3. The materials of natural bristles and synthetic fibers are different. Natural hair with hair scales is easier to color under the microscope.
4. The Difference Between Natural and Synthetic Makeup Brushes, Explained
The type of synthetic fiber material
The progress in science and technology has got us new materials for synthetic fibers. Synthetic fiber has high strength. It is also lightweight, easy to clean and quick-drying, has good elasticity, is not afraid of mildew, and so on. And low price is one of the main raw materials for brush making. New synthetic fibers consist of:
Bamboo charcoal fiber, microcrystalline, nano, corn fiber, and so on.
Corn fiber is a symbol of a new type of material, and its raw material comes from natural plants. It not only has the advantages of other synthetic fibers but is also degradable. So it will not break the environment in which we live.

Dyeing and production of synthetic fibers for makeup brushes
- The dyeing and production of synthetic fibers is a complex and technical process. Today, let me take you through its production process. Synthetic fibers get used in cosmetic brushes, such as Taklon, Natural, or Tafre. They are polyester, polypropylene, or nylon. These types of fibers are extruded forced from a machine that turns plastic. It usually is in a bead form but then turns into a thread or filament. Do you ever remember turning Play-Doh into spaghetti by forcing it through a grate? Well, that is extrusion.
It is well known that synthetic fibers are as slender as hair. They get wrapped in pp paper into a 1.8-meter-long cylinder with a diameter of about 5cm. It is easy to cut after packaging into a cylinder. We need to cut it because different brush heads need different hair lengths. After cutting the synthetic fiber, use tools to make the cutting surface smoother.
- The tip of oxidized synthetic fiber, the tip of the bristles, is called “Mao Feng.” The cut synthetic fiber should get oxidized by sodium peroxide solution to form the tip of the brush. The 1-2cm height of synthetic fiber is soaked in sodium peroxide solution for 1-2 minutes. After the tip of the bristles gets oxidized, the synthetic fiber at the other end gets oxidized too. This is done to reduce the volume of the root to ease the production of later cosmetic brushes. This also makes the shape of the brush head more beautiful.
Dyeing of synthetic fibers
1. The first step is placing Oxidized synthetic fiber in a heating container first. Doing this heats and rinses the synthetic fiber. Many particles and sodium peroxide solution remain in the synthetic fiber after oxidation. This is why placing the rinsed synthetic fibers in the oven for them to dry is important. Check if they are clean enough after drying.
2. Rinse the synthetic fiber and prepare for dyeing. Dyeing is a complicated process, and different bristles need different dyeing methods.
Monochromatic bristles dyeing:
a) Put the rinsed synthetic fiber into a heating container and add water. Heat and add dyes in the heating vessel which is like an oversized pressure cooker. The dyeing of single-color bristles gets completed after heating it for 1-2 hours. (There is a pressure pump in the heating container. The solution in the container forms a high-pressure water column. This ensures that the dye solution can permeate the synthetic fiber equally.)
b. Rinse the dyed single-color synthetic fiber and the remaining dyeing solution. This ensures that the bristles will not fade.
c. Finally, remove the rinsed synthetic fiber from the container. Proceed to put it in a centrifuge to complete dehydration.
d. Put them in the oven to dry and bake them at 110 degrees Celsius for 3-5 hours. e. The dried synthetic fibers need mixing with a machine. The purpose of mixing is to make the color more uniform and loose.
Two-color synthetic fiber dyeing (1)
There are also several different dyeing methods for two-color synthetic fibers. The following introduces the dyeing methods of the bristles in the picture.
- White body dyed with purple tip bristles: The first step is rinsing the oxidized synthetic bristles. Then they get placed in an iron pan to prepare for dyeing.
- Prepare dye paste, add the appropriate amount of water and dye to the container to make dye paste.
- Use a brush like a shoe brush to dip in an appropriate amount of dye cream. Apply the dye cream evenly on the tip of the synthetic fiber, which goes by the term “hair peak.” After application, leave it for 2-3 hours.
- Put them in a heating container after placing them for 2-3 hours. Then heat them and rinse the excess dye cream on the tips of synthetic fibers.
- Take out the rinsed synthetic fiber from the container. Proceed to put it in a centrifuge to complete dehydration.
- Put them in the oven to dry and bake them at 110 degrees Celsius for 3-5 hours.
- The dried synthetic fibers need to get mixed with a machine. The purpose of mixing is to make the color more uniform and loose
Two-color synthetic fiber dyeing (2)
- Brown body and white body tip bristles dyed Rinsing the oxidized synthetic bristles is the first step. Then they get dyed into a single-color synthetic fiber. The rinsed synthetic fiber gets placed in a heating container, and water gets added. Heat and add dye. Generally, it gets heated for 1-2 hours to complete the dyeing of the single-color bristles. (There is a pressure pump in the heating container. This is to ensure that the solution in the container forms a high-pressure water column. This helps the dye solution evenly permeate the synthetic fiber.)
- Rinse the dyed monochromatic synthetic fiber. Then rinse the remaining dyeing solution to ensure that the bristles will not fade.
- The dyed synthetic fibers get put in a centrifuge to complete dehydration and then put in an oven to dry.
- The dried synthetic fiber gets decolorized by using a decolorizing agent. The amount of decolorizing agent determines the tip whiteness of synthetic fibers.
- Put them in a heating container after placing them for 2-3 hours. Heat them and rinse the excess decolorizing agent on the tips of synthetic fibers.
- Take out the rinsed synthetic fiber from the container. Put it in a centrifuge to complete dehydration.
- Put them in the oven to dry and bake them at 110 degrees Celsius for 3-5 hours.
- The dried synthetic fibers need to get mixed with a machine. The purpose of mixing is to make the color more uniform and loose.
How to get a color similar to natural hair
- How to imitate the color of single-color natural hair with synthetic fibers? The darker color of the natural hair of a single color is the easiest color to imitate. We only need to put the oxidized synthetic fiber into the dyeing container to dye a similar color. Natural hair with a lighter color will have darker tips and lighter body colors. This happens because natural hair tips are long and slender, and the tips are easier to color than the body. (As shown in the figure below) It is a complicated dyeing process to dye synthetic fibers with similar colors. Usually, a single-color synthetic fiber gets dyed first. Then the tip of the synthetic fiber gets whitened by a bleaching agent. After the tip of the synthetic fiber turns white, prepare a darker dye paste. Then apply it to the tip of the synthetic fiber. Let it stand for 2-3 hours and then wash to finish dyeing.
- How to imitate the color of colorful natural hair with synthetic fibers? Synthetic fibers want to imitate colorful natural hair. Which is to mix different colors of synthetic fibers. The difficulty lies in mastering all the colors in natural hair. Dyeing similar synthetic bristles is additionally another skill to master. After dyeing, they must get blended in different proportions according to different colors. This is a process full of trials.
About the waviness of makeup brushes
1. Synthetic fibers get divided into 5 grades to distinguish waviness:
No waviness
Low waviness
Medium waviness
High waviness
Super high waviness.
Synthetic fibers without waviness get used in producing concealer brushes. Additionally, facial mask brushes and magic foundation brushes are also made.
Medium and low waviness synthetic fibers get used in foundation brushes. Along with other products such as blush brushes, kabuki makeup brushes, etc. High waviness is suitable for cosmetic brushes with fluffy brush heads. This can reduce the number of synthetic fibers to save production costs. The ultra-high-wave synthetic fiber is suitable for the production of beard brushes. In some cases, other special makeup brushes.
2. Raw materials of synthetic fibers The softer the synthetic fiber means, the smaller its diameter. 0.07mm synthetic fiber with waviness gets used in producing facial makeup brushes. Synthetic fibers without waviness are generally used to produce concealer brushes. They are also used to make lip brushes and eyeliners. Synthetic bristles with a diameter of 0.08mm are rarely used in the market. Only if the customer has special requirements for the hardness of the cosmetic brush is it used. The 0.1mm diameter high-waviness synthetic fiber gets used to make beard brushes. The non-waviness synthetic fiber gets used in producing facial mask brushes. Makeup brushes made of synthetic fibers with a diameter of 0.06mm are very soft. Yet, they lack hardness and are not suitable for makeup beginners. Synthetic fibers with a diameter of 0.05mm are generally not used to produce makeup brushes. They get used in the blending process of natural hair with higher hardness. For example, raccoon hair, goat hair, etc.
